Jose Mourinho criticized the officiating in Turkey following a thrilling match in which his Fenerbahce team secured a winner in the 102nd minute against Trabzonspor.
The ex-manager of Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham dashed onto the pitch, attempting a knee slide after Sofyan Amrabat’s dramatic late goal secured a 3-2 win on Sunday.
Jose Mourinho expressed dissatisfaction with the decisions made during the match, particularly regarding the two penalties awarded to the home team, Trabzonspor, which followed consultations with the video assistant referee (VAR). He also believed his team deserved a penalty before Amrabat’s decisive late goal.
The 61-year-old raised questions about his decision to travel to Turkey.
Mourinho delivered a detailed critique of referee Oguzhan Cakir and VAR official Atilla Karaoglan during an interview with broadcaster beIN Sports.
“I hold the Fenerbahce management responsible for my arrival,” stated Mourinho, who assumed club leadership in June. “I was informed of only a portion of the truth.”
“The complete truth was withheld from me; had I known it all, I would not have attended.”
“However, armed with only part of the truth and my team, we confront adversaries and the establishment.”
Mourinho remarked, “Karaoglan was quick to award two penalty decisions that the referee overlooked, yet he seemed to be enjoying Turkish tea when a clear penalty for us was evident, and he failed to call it.”
Fenerbahce ascended to second place in the Turkish top flight, trailing leaders Galatasaray by five points following their recent victory.
“Atilla Karaoglan was named the man of the match,” Mourinho stated.
Although we did not glimpse him, he served as the referee. Though appearing youthful, the referee was Atilla Karaoglan, a notable presence on the pitch.
He transitions from being overlooked to becoming the pivotal figure in the game.
Many Fenerbahce supporters share a common sentiment: they do not wish to see him return.
“There is a clear consensus against his appointment as a VAR.” There is a strong sentiment against his presence on the pitch but an even more significant concern regarding his involvement with VAR.
