Google has launched cross-platform wireless file sharing across Android and Apple devices, starting with its new Pixel 10 smartphones.
The update launched on November 20 enables Pixel 10 users to transmit and receive files using Apple’s AirDrop by integrating Google’s Quick Share system with Apple devices. This marks the first instance of AirDrop-style transfers between the two operating systems.
In a recent blog post, Google stated that the functionality aims to facilitate seamless sharing among friends and family, regardless of the devices they use. The corporation emphasised that the system was constructed with “security at its core,” noting that independent specialists had evaluated the implemented protections.
In a statement on its support site, Google indicated that the capability is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and macOS devices; however, Apple users must temporarily set their devices to be discoverable to “everyone for 10 minutes” before initiating a transfer with a Pixel 10. Upon activation, the procedure resembles a conventional AirDrop request for Apple devices. Transfers in the opposite direction are likewise effective, provided the Pixel 10 is configured to receive files.
Google indicated the modification as part of a comprehensive initiative to enhance platform compatibility, following changes to RCS messaging and notifications regarding unidentified trackers.
