Police identified a supporter who threw an object onto the pitch during the LaLiga match against local rivals Real Madrid on Sunday, and Atletico Madrid announced on Monday that they have imposed a permanent stadium ban on him.
Following the visitors’ lead in the second half, Atletico fans hurled objects at Real’s goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, resulting in a 20-minute suspension. Atletico managed to secure a 1-1 draw, thanks to a late goal from Angel Correa during added time.
Atletico has issued a statement confirming that their security department is collaborating with the police to identify additional individuals involved in the incident, all of whom will face permanent expulsion.
The club announced a ban on any items or clothing that enable individuals to conceal their identity within the stadium.
This Wednesday, Atletico Madrid, currently fourth in La Liga, will play Benfica in the Champions League.
