Carvajal's cruciate ligament damage requires surgery

Real Madrid has announced that Dani Carvajal will require surgery following the rupture of two ligaments and a tendon in his right leg. The defender left the field during Saturday’s match, which ended with a 2-0 victory against Villarreal.

During stoppage time, Carvajal, 32, sustained a right knee injury in a clash with Villarreal midfielder Yeremy Pino, leading to a dramatic turn of events.

Carvajal announced on Instagram, alongside a photo of himself in an ambulance, that he had confirmed a serious cruciate ligament injury, necessitating surgery and a few months away from the field.

“Eager to embark on the recovery journey and return stronger than ever.” He expressed gratitude for the outpouring of messages, stating, “I feel very loved.”

Coach Carlo Ancelotti expressed his worries regarding Carvajal’s injury, marking yet another setback for the Spanish team following their recent match without goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who sustained an abductor muscle injury in the game against Atletico last weekend.

Real Madrid revealed on Sunday that Carvajal’s right leg has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament, the external collateral ligament, and the popliteal tendon.

The La Liga club confirmed that winger Vinicius Jr. sustained a cervical injury during the same match.

Real Madrid currently holds the second position in the standings, sharing 21 points with league leaders Barcelona. Later on Sunday, Real Madrid will take on 11th-placed Alaves.
