Crime caught in reflection: man jailed for rape

According to reports, a South Korean high court has maintained a 24-year-old man’s conviction for several sexual offences, including rape, after the assault was captured on surveillance tape and mirrored on a washing machine lid.

Until detectives saw the assault in the lid’s reflection, the victim’s CCTV footage did not seem to document the incident.

According to reports, the guy was previously charged with various crimes, such as allegedly raping a former girlfriend and having intercourse with a juvenile.

In November, he was found guilty and given an eight-year prison term, but he filed an appeal.  After considering the settlement he had struck with one of the victims, the top court sentenced him to seven years in prison.

In addition to being prohibited from working in institutions for children, minors, and disabled persons for seven years upon his release, the man also had to wear an ankle tag.
