'My job is very hard': Amorim upset as Manchester United loses again

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim expressed the challenges of his role following a defeat against Tottenham, which has positioned his team in 15th place in the Premier League standings.

The Portuguese coach experienced his eighth Themt in 12 league matches, as James Maddison’s goal in the 13th minute secured victory for Spurs.

The Red Devils faced another challenging match as Amorim grappled with a daunting 12-man injury list, forcing him to populate his bench with young players.

Amorim, 40, delivered yet another candid post-match news conference following his team’s performance on Sunday, continuing his pattern of transparency since joining United.

“I am facing numerous challenges,” he stated in an interview with Sky Sports. “Despite the challenges I face in my job, I remain committed to my work and will carry on into the next week, driven by my beliefs and determination to succeed again.”

Amidst a challenging match where his team trailed for over 70 minutes, Amorim opted to wait until the first minute of stoppage time to make a substitution, introducing 17-year-old Chido Obi to the pitch.

The forward was among eight teenagers seated on the bench, and Amorim indicated post-match that he did not use more players during the game to avoid impeding their development.

“He described it as the most challenging competition globally,” he told BBC Sport.

Efforts are being made to exercise caution in handling them. The team appeared to be striving towards the goal, and I sensed a reluctance to alter my stance. However, they are set to compete. My primary focus is to assist my players. The individual expressed a clear understanding of their current circumstances and confidence in their professional abilities, emphasising a desire to achieve victories. “My concern lies with our position in the standings; I am not preoccupied with my situation,” they stated.

Despite facing a significant injury crisis, United’s league statistics paint a bleak picture this season. The team has suffered 12 losses in 25 matches, recording eight wins and five draws. This marks their highest number of defeats in the opening 25 games since the 1973-74 season, a year that ultimately saw them relegated from the top division.

The team has suffered eight losses in their last 12 matches, recording three wins and one draw. Since the first match of this stretch on December 4 against Arsenal, only the bottom two teams, Leicester and Southampton, have experienced more defeats, with nine and ten, respectively.

United scored only nine goals in the first half in the current standings, placing them just above Leicester, who recorded a mere seven. In a concerning trend, the Red Devils have found the back of the net only once during the first half of their last ten matches, with the sole goal coming from a Bruno Fernandes penalty against Brighton in January.

Gary Neville, a former United defender, has expressed concern over the lack of visible progress since Amorim took over from Erik ten Hag in November.

“The club must exercise patience, but I hope to witness an increase in performance levels,” he stated in an interview with Sky Sports.

“United’s performance has consistently hovered around an average level week after week.”  Amorim’sHis engaging press conferences have notably marked Amorim’s tenure.

“The current performance of the United team leaves much to be desired.”

Jamie Redknapp, a former Tottenham midfielder, remarked, “They are significantly lacking in top players, which will require considerable time and patience.” For a club as significant as Manchester United, the last thing they want to confront is that reality.

“For supporters of Manchester United, the experience can be quite challenging.”
